Carlos Sainz spoke about possible participation in the Dakar rally raid.


The Ferrari driver came to Saudi Arabia to watch the performances of his father, Carlos Sainz Sr. The 60-year-old Spaniard won the first stage of the rally raid.


This is my first time at Dakar. Of course, I learn a lot of new things and try to understand them. I watched my father from a helicopter, it was a great adventure. It was great, also because he won. I`m happy, my mom is happy. A beautiful day, to be honest.


If I perform here, it will be because I myself like it and find it interesting, and not because of my father`s participation. I have been following Dakar since my father raced here - since 2006, that is, 16-17 years. I always wanted to come, but I have to rest one week a year and not travel. But the F1 season ended early, and I set aside a week from January 1 to come to Dakar.


Everything here seems like magic: the teams compete, but the bivouac has a friendly atmosphere, an atmosphere of adventure. I really like it - it`s something I could take part in. The views are amazing: we visited canyons, dunes, mountains. Saudi Arabia is a special place for Dakar, we visited some incredible locations.


When I followed my father, I had mixed feelings. When we first approached, he had to stop due to a puncture. I was afraid I had jinxed him or something. I panicked a little, I thought it was all over. But he was able to continue, and it`s great that he achieved the result according odds draw tips he wanted. Watching him was something special, " Carlos admitted.
