Mercedes driver George Russell noted that one season spent in a team with Lewis Hamilton was more useful in terms of experience than all three seasons with Williams before that.


According to Russell, the opportunity to learn from such an experienced rider has greatly helped him improve in many areas.


Lewis and I have a good relationship. I always treated him with great respect, and Lewis, in turn, treated me with respect and gave me time.


It helped me a lot that while still competing in Formula 2, I often flew to races with Lewis and spent time with him in the engineering office. So we naturally formed a good relationship.


Having the opportunity to watch him work with the team was a great opportunity for me to learn a lot. After all, with the exception of Fernando Alonso, Lewis is generally the most experienced driver in Formula 1.


And experience is something that cannot be bought. So the chance to be next to Lewis in the pits, the opportunity to sit opposite him in meetings with engineers - all this helped greatly to gain a lot of experience, which can be equated to several years of racing in F1. That probably made up for the three years at Williams where I tried to be a team leader when I actually had very little experience in that regard, " Russell said.
